In the whole week of parenthood I've found some things very useful.
We use our LightNight Rechargeable LED Portable Light, Red constantly. It's great to take to the bathroom so you don't have to turn on all the lights and late night diaper changes. You can move it to the exact spot (the baby's bum) to make sure you got everything.
We heard that a diaper pail wasn't really necessary and were ready to buy a nice garbage can with a lid for our small apartment, however when we got to looking we found that the diaper pails were the same price as the covered garbage cans. We bought the Baby Trend - Diaper Champ Deluxe because you can use regular trash bags and it has worked like a charm. We have it in our bedroom and it doesn't smell like dirty diapers.
At night we use a Halo Innovations SleepSack Wearable Blanket, microfleece. It's great because it zips from the bottom so you don't have to completely undress the baby in order to change his diaper at night and it keeps him warm.
Although spring is on it's way and the temperatures have been unusually high, I have enjoyed using this JJ Cole Car Seat Cover the few times we have ventured out. It keeps him warm and covered and the sun out of his eyes.
I bought a few nursing bras this last month and it was a very frustrating experience. I just couldn't find any that fit right with my bulging belly. Since giving birth the circumference of my ribcage has decreased a lot and those bras I bought fit much better. I really like the Gilligan & O’Malley® Womens Nursing Sleep Bra and wear it pretty much all the time. It's comfortable and user friendly. It's strange to need to wear a bra for support. Definitely something new for me.
I spend a lot of time sitting around feeding my new baby and trying to take care of myself with frequent sitz baths. My iPod touch keeps me entertained during these long sessions of immobility plus there are many helpful apps that help me keep track of how long and how often and from which side my babe has fed. I use it constantly. Now if only my friends would update their statuses more frequently on Facebook those late night feedings wouldn't get so boring.
My friends bought me the Baby Einstein Neptune Ocean Adventure Gym for my baby shower. I didn't anticipate it getting much use until Baby Q was a little older, but he really loves it now. He doesn't look at any of the toys and I can't understand why he seems so content to lay on it for long periods of time when just looking at his comfy bed makes him cranky. I don't ask questions as it gives me time to do things like eat. Plus it's Baby Einstein so I know he's getting smarter by osmosis.

Play mats are great, they help with crawling, head control, etc. Can't wait to see you and Baby Q on Friday!
