out west

I'm back from our trip to Wyoming and Utah and I'm almost done with all the Nursery stuff I've been working on. We've decided to split the two nurseries so we'll have 4 nurseries!  I'm hoping this makes things less chaotic instead of more, but I'm not so sure.

Our trip was really nice and relaxing.  My husband went hunting and fishing with my dad and brothers, which is very novel for him.  I went fishing every Saturday growing up so I don't really feel like I need to do it anymore.  Besides it's much more fun to go shopping with my mom and sister.  Going shopping in Wyoming is so much nicer than here.  Here we have more selection, but in Wyoming they have something called clearance!

Sometimes you can find clearance items here, but it's usually very picked over and not that great of prices.  I bought two pairs of shoes that were 75% off the clearance price!  Only $10 each!  I also bought a few shirts and a pair of stretchy pants that can cover my ever growing pooch, all on sale for $10 or less.  I also bought a new dress at Downeast Outfitters.  We do not have this store in Virginia, which is a shame because they have fantastic dresses for about $30.

I felt pretty good my whole trip, probably because I was constantly eating.  We ate at my favorite fast food Mexican joint, Taco Time.  My mom worked there as a teenager and my sister and brother have both followed in her foot steps.    My mom made gluten-free pizza and pie using a coconut crust.  Nothing like Mom's cooking :)

On Friday my husband and I went with my parents to a ghost town called South Pass City.  I hadn't been there since I was about 11 so it was all pretty new to me.  I love historic stuff and my husband likes taking pictures so we were good.  It was also nice to hang out with just my parents, I haven't really done that a lot in my life since my little brother was born.  On our way back to town we had to stop at Farson for a gigantic ice cream.  It was tasty!

When we got home my husband and I went to dinner with my biological dad and had steak and potatoes.  I was so full I had to take some Maalox!  We also went to see a movie, since there isn't a ton to do in Wyoming.  It was weird thinking I used to go to that theatre all the time growing up.

Saturday we went down to Salt Lake City for my cousin's wedding.  It was a nice wedding and it was so great to see my aunt and uncle who I hadn't seen in a while.  We had to wake up at 5:30 that morning in order to get to the Salt Lake City temple for the ceremony at 9:30 AM and on our way down my cousin asked me if I could do a reading at his ring ceremony later that day.  Public speaking makes me pretty nervous and I wanted to do a good job since it was his wedding and all so I was a little stressed out until after 5:30 PM when I finished.

Plus I found out my grandpa had a minor heart attack and a stroke and was in the hospital in SLC so we went to the hospital in between wedding events.  I always find hospital visits to be stressful, but it was nice to see my grandma and grandpa who I hadn't seen in a couple years.

So by the time we got to the hotel at 8 PM I was pretty tired.  My dad really wanted to go see the stock car races, but no one wanted to go with him so he went alone.  My mom and sister walked over to Chili's with us and we had dinner.  I knew it was time to go to bed when I started to fall asleep while eating.

The next morning we found out that the night before my dad had gotten in a fight with three drunk guys at the races. He's not a young man, but he is pretty strong and was able to hold his own until the security guards came and threw out the other guys.  He said that everyone was calling him a hero because he stood up to these guys who were yelling profanities at an older couple.  Crazy!

I can't say I'm happy to be home, but the lower temperatures have made it a little more bearable.

labor & delivery

I'm finally getting around to posting my labor and delivery story.  After I got an epidural I wrote down what had happened so far and after the baby was born I wrote down the rest to make sure I remembered everything.  Since it's been two weeks of not a lot sleep and my memory of the event is somewhat drowned out with all the new mommy stuff, I'm just going to type what I wrote. February 21, 2011 - Monday We got up at abut 6 AM after a short night of lots of cramping.  I was hoping to go into labor or at least make some progress, but no luck.  I was still at 1 cm when the doctor measured me at about 8:30 am.  I got the oxytocin and a bulb to open up my cervix at about 8:45 am.   pre-pain, Nurse Lynn At first the contractions were so bad I wanted to cry and then they slowed down and it was more tolerable, but not to the point where I could walk around and I still threw up from the pain.  It got really bad at 1:10 when they gave me the Pitocin. ...

top 10 reasons I love breastfeeding

I have to preface this list with that it is MY list. Not all these things will apply to everyone.  I am aware that some women have a really hard time breastfeeding, some stick with it and some don't and they would have their own lists of why they like it or not.   Quentin and I have had a really easy time with it for whatever reason.  It's not because of anything I've done.  I do believe it is something all new moms should try.  Not like you tried it once and it didn't work out, but really truly try and get help from a lactation consultant if you need to.  It's totally worth it if you can get it to work for you.  If you decide not to for whatever reason I won't judge you.  I was bottle fed myself and I turned out just fine. 10. Bigger boobs.  I've always had really small breasts and have worn padded bras pretty much since puberty and kids made fun of small cup size.  I like how breastfeeding has made me more proportional a...

breastfeeding & weaning

Quentin has started walking!  Everyday he becomes more and more confident and walks more and more.  He's at about 50% crawling, 50% walking now.  My parents are in town and my mom commented how stable he is for just starting out. I can't really compare him to other kids since I only have the one.  I think he was just waiting until he felt completely confident. He has been eating a lot better lately.  He even ate some tilapia a couple times, but it had to be off of other people's plates for some reason.  I also started feeding him baby food again, which he gladly eats.  He likes it and it's healthy for him so I see no reason to force him to eat other food.  If he's 14 and still wants to eat baby food I guess that will be ok (he definitely wouldn't be overweight), but my guess is that he probably will give in to peer pressure before that happens. Last week he didn't want to take any morning naps, but this week he's been much more interested...
