making a list (or two or three)

We have a few lists of things that need to be packed, done, and bought before Baby is born and we checked off a few more items from each list this weekend.  Besides baby stuff we spent a lot of time thinking about and looking at a foreclosed condo we found last week.  It needs some work in the kitchen and bathrooms, but otherwise it's in pretty good shape for a foreclosed place.  Plus it's right around the corner from the metro and has three big bedrooms and closets and it's cheap!

We love watching tv shows about real estate flippers so we have all these ideas on how we're going to remodel, how to save money, how to keep the changes neutral so the next person will like the changes too.  We went onto the various DIY websites to see how much everything will cost us and talked to my brother-in-law who is a general contractor in Florida to see how much it would cost to make the renovations.

So yesterday we decided to put down an offer on this place and my husband spent all day on the phone with various banks getting pre-approved.  We found out our credit scores which are pretty good.  When I was about to go on a mission my dad took out a joint credit card with a large limit in case I needed any money while I was in Italy.  I had no idea he had done this until I was going over my credit information a few years ago.  This, I believe, really helped my credit score and I've decided to do something similar for my kids.

This morning (after a 2 hour work delay and a long commute) I went into my bank and got a certified check for the earnest money deposit.  We need to meet with the real estate agent soon to sign the papers so he can put in the offer.  We also heard today that someone else has put in an offer as well so that's a bummer.

While I was at my bank the woman I was speaking to recommended that we get life insurance since we're planning on buying a place and are going to have a baby soon.  I hadn't thought about that for awhile, but geesh, she's right.  We really need to look into that.  Add that to the list of things to do!

We went to my physical yesterday at a family practice and besides the LONG list of fees and 8-5 business hours we really liked it.  The PA I met with was thorough and nice, she took time to answer questions and hear long stories about my medical history.  It was good.  So, now we're down to two places.  I really like the family practice because it's professional and nice and doesn't feel like a daycare center.  They have 4 doctors and 2 PAs so it's a bit more manageable that way.

We also like the mega pediatrics center because of the sweet 6:30-8 hours and they have a nurse available to answer calls all day.  They are super available to freaked out first time parents and I'm sure the reassurance would be nice.  I really have no idea which one to choose.  The PA we met with suggested that we chat with friends who have children about who they go to.  I've really only spoke to one and I'm not sure why since we actually have lots of friends with small children who probably have good pediatricians.

I handed in our pre-registration form to the hospital yesterday.  Normally you could just mail it, but since it has our birth dates and social security numbers on it we decided to hand deliver it.  It was fun to think about how that will be the first place I get to meet my son.  Eight months down, one to go!!

I guess I am the one friend! LOL Well like we all know everyone has an opinion on everything so go with your gut. I love our pediatrician but you or others may not and that goes for a lot of the doctors in the area. I called my pediatrician's office all the time the first few months. I was on a first name basis with all the nurses and receptionists. Ha. They told me it's okay, we are use to it and here to help. :)

labor & delivery

I'm finally getting around to posting my labor and delivery story.  After I got an epidural I wrote down what had happened so far and after the baby was born I wrote down the rest to make sure I remembered everything.  Since it's been two weeks of not a lot sleep and my memory of the event is somewhat drowned out with all the new mommy stuff, I'm just going to type what I wrote. February 21, 2011 - Monday We got up at abut 6 AM after a short night of lots of cramping.  I was hoping to go into labor or at least make some progress, but no luck.  I was still at 1 cm when the doctor measured me at about 8:30 am.  I got the oxytocin and a bulb to open up my cervix at about 8:45 am.   pre-pain, Nurse Lynn At first the contractions were so bad I wanted to cry and then they slowed down and it was more tolerable, but not to the point where I could walk around and I still threw up from the pain.  It got really bad at 1:10 when they gave me the Pitocin. ...

top 10 reasons I love breastfeeding

I have to preface this list with that it is MY list. Not all these things will apply to everyone.  I am aware that some women have a really hard time breastfeeding, some stick with it and some don't and they would have their own lists of why they like it or not.   Quentin and I have had a really easy time with it for whatever reason.  It's not because of anything I've done.  I do believe it is something all new moms should try.  Not like you tried it once and it didn't work out, but really truly try and get help from a lactation consultant if you need to.  It's totally worth it if you can get it to work for you.  If you decide not to for whatever reason I won't judge you.  I was bottle fed myself and I turned out just fine. 10. Bigger boobs.  I've always had really small breasts and have worn padded bras pretty much since puberty and kids made fun of small cup size.  I like how breastfeeding has made me more proportional a...

breastfeeding & weaning

Quentin has started walking!  Everyday he becomes more and more confident and walks more and more.  He's at about 50% crawling, 50% walking now.  My parents are in town and my mom commented how stable he is for just starting out. I can't really compare him to other kids since I only have the one.  I think he was just waiting until he felt completely confident. He has been eating a lot better lately.  He even ate some tilapia a couple times, but it had to be off of other people's plates for some reason.  I also started feeding him baby food again, which he gladly eats.  He likes it and it's healthy for him so I see no reason to force him to eat other food.  If he's 14 and still wants to eat baby food I guess that will be ok (he definitely wouldn't be overweight), but my guess is that he probably will give in to peer pressure before that happens. Last week he didn't want to take any morning naps, but this week he's been much more interested...
