choosing for baby

After work on Tuesday we went to Babies R Us to pick up my Preggy Pop Drops and of course we had to check out all the cute baby clothes and furniture.  Since we live in a one bedroom apartment we have to get small stuff.  We're thinking about getting a bassinet, that way we'll have to get a new place to live once the baby out grows it...that's my plan anyway.  There's so much stuff you have to get and then store somewhere.  Do you know you can buy a regular queen sized bed at Babies R Us?  You can also buy pads and tampons which I thought was kinda weird.  Why would you buy them there?

I love these baby gowns and I want to buy a bunch of them.  My mom used to have something similar for my siblings and I always liked them.  I like how you have easy access for diaper changing (no messing around with endless snaps in the middle of the night) and you can fold over the sleeve and make a little mitten to protect them from scratching their faces.  Plus they're much cuter than the ones with legs.


When we got home we went through a baby name book searching for a decent boy name.  Instead we came out with another girl name we like.  So far Gwyneth and Tabitha are at the top of our lists for girls and Phineas, Sebastian, Thaddeus, and Theodore are the best boy names we've found. 

We have specific criteria for any name we choose.  I like older names, (which also seem to be gaining popularity with everyone else having babies these days), not be super popular but not strange, and preferably have a nice meaning.  My husband also likes the idea of the first two letters having the first letters of our name (that's what his parents did when naming him and his brother). So Tabitha fits the bill with "Ta" as the first two letters.  "At" would also work but there aren't very many good names that work with that.  My husband likes Atticus for this reason but it's getting too popular for me.  Thaddeus sort of works, plus most people named Thaddeus are in their late 30s.  Unfortunately for my husband, Sebatian is ranked 74th, way too popular. 

If you're like me and want to see how popular your baby name is you can either check out the Social Security website which has lists of who applied for a social security card - you can also see what are the most popular names by state which is really interesting, or you can check out Wolfram Alpha.  Wolfram Alpha uses the data from the SSA and makes cools graphs out of it.  I majored in economics so I love graphs.  I just wish they had the meaning of the names, then it would be off the hook.

I wore my skinny outfit for my boss, but he was out sick and didn't even get to see it.  I showed my coworker and she thought that since he really loves kids, perhaps it was wishful thinking on his part.  That made me feel good since one day I'm going to have to break the news.

top 10 reasons I love breastfeeding

I have to preface this list with that it is MY list. Not all these things will apply to everyone.  I am aware that some women have a really hard time breastfeeding, some stick with it and some don't and they would have their own lists of why they like it or not.   Quentin and I have had a really easy time with it for whatever reason.  It's not because of anything I've done.  I do believe it is something all new moms should try.  Not like you tried it once and it didn't work out, but really truly try and get help from a lactation consultant if you need to.  It's totally worth it if you can get it to work for you.  If you decide not to for whatever reason I won't judge you.  I was bottle fed myself and I turned out just fine. 10. breastfeeding & weaning

Quentin has started walking!  Everyday he becomes more and more confident and walks more and more.  He's at about 50% crawling, 50% walking now.  My parents are in town and my mom commented how stable he is for just starting out. I can't really compare him to other kids since I only have the one.  I think he was just waiting until he felt completely confident. He has been eating a lot better lately.  He even ate some tilapia a couple times, but it had to be off of other people's plates for some reason.  I also started feeding him baby food again, which he gladly eats.  He likes it and it's healthy for him so I see no reason to force him to eat other food.  If he's 14 and still wants to eat baby food I guess that will be ok (he definitely wouldn't be overweight), but my guess is that he probably will give in to peer pressure before that happens.
